The
Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has debunked claims
by some aspirants that Governor Rauf Aregbesola is imposing some serving
lawmakers on the people.
The Director of Publicity, Research and
Strategy of the APC in the state, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said this in a
telephone interview with our correspondent in Osogbo on Saturday.
He said, “The allegation against the
governor is baseless and unwarranted. The governor did not interfere in
any of the primaries because he wants the most popular aspirant to
emerge.
“Some of the aspirants have been going
about claiming they won the primaries, don’t allow them to mislead the
public. The governor does not have any preferred choice among them. They
are all members of the party and he would not impose anyone on the
party.”
Although the party had yet to make public
the list of those who won the primary election, sources told our
correspondent that former Governor Isiaka Adeleke defeated the serving
senator from Osun West Senatorial District, Husain Madasiru, while Sola
Lawal defeated incumbent Senator Jide Omoworare, representing Osun East
Senatorial District while only Prof. Sola Adeyeye from Osun Central
retained the party’s ticket.
